Obesity - A Global Concern

About three hundred twenty million people are obese and the number is not decreasing considering the sedentary lifestyle of many individuals and the proliferation of unhealthy foods as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). The world body defines obesity and being overweight as ” an accumulation of excess body fat to an extent that may impair health”. When you exceed the ideal body weight by one hundred pounds for males and eighty pounds for the females, you are considered suffering from severe or morbid obesity. International health experts define overweight, when you have a body mass index (BMI) of twenty five and above and obesity with a BMI of thirty or more. Body mass index is calculated by a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his or her height. They claimed that there are more obese females than males.
