Genetic Invincibility - Is It For Real Or Myth?

There are stories that feed the fantasy of genetic invincibility that rehashes family fables for everyone to hear saying, “After all, we are a family of good stock and illness has never been a concern to us, so we can live and eat as we please”. However, newer studies are indicative that when it comes to longevity, genes of the sturdy kind contribute only twenty percent of our total well being.

Adolescents Can Easily Be Addicted To Tobacco

Adolescents after their first cigarette very soon can experienced a loss of autonomy over tobacco according to a family health and community medicine specialist at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. The specialist who studies tobacco dependence, described a typical teenage smoker, a fourteen year old girl who smoke only occasionally about three cigarettes a week.

Kleptomania - What It Is All About?

Kleptomania is an obsessive - compulsive disorder or also known as “compulsive theft behavioral disorder”. It is a manifestation of a larger psychiatric entity. While the legal consequence of being caught stealing is the same for all thieves, the motive of a kleptomaniac is gratification in the act of stealing, not for economic benefit. As we have known, everyone has its own rituals, superstitions and habits. These are normal “adjustments” to make one’s life manageable and even pleasurable. Once these behaviors become uncontrollable and seems to take over one’s thoughts and feelings, there must be a reason to suspect a brain malfunction called obsessive- compulsive disorder (OCD).

Overcoming The Fear Of Math

Mathematics is probably the most dreaded subject among students, oftentimes seen as difficult and hard to learn. Truth to the matter is that the adverse attitude of students towards math is one of the reasons why these young people are behind in math proficiency. It is either they fear the subject or they have little interest or poor motivation of the subject. Whatever the reasons may be, we have to understand that there are many factors influencing poor performance of students in math.

Tattoos - Is It An Art Form Or A Brand For Society’s Ills?

Public perception on tattoo has its ups and lows. It has been associated with a life of crime in the sense that the art of tattoo is prevalent among inmates in jails and security prisoners. People branded it as a tainted skin art in which the stigma persists up to this time. Some people or establishments, they took care not to hire any person who sported a tattoo especially those proclaiming themselves to be a member of certain underworld gangs or groups.

But it’s not the money itself but the obsession to acquire it by all means has motivated a person to do evil things such as: murder, robbery, swindling, plunder, graft and corruption, lying, stealing of people’s money, betrayal of public trust, cheating just to stay in power, conspiracy and the likes. Shark Population - Facing Serious Threat

One third of more than five hundred shark species are threatened with extinction according to World Conservation Union. Many species of shark are facing a grave threat to their existence because of worldwide fishing trends. Fishermen used to cut the lines and let the sharks go, but not anymore because in recent years fishermen have kept the sharks to sell their lucrative fins. Shark overfishing can remove fifty to ninety percent of an entire shark species in only ten years, it is alarming but the projections were based on an ongoing study by the Conservation Union Shark Research Group.

Driver Fatigue - Most Underestimated Cause Of Accident On The Road

Signs of fatigue can seriously impair your driving skills while on the road. When you are fatigued your reactions are much slower, your ability to concentrate on driving is reduced and it takes longer to interpret and understand what is happening with the other traffic. Fatigue related crashes are often more severe than others because driver’s reaction times are delayed or they have failed to make any maneuvers to avoid a crash. Add fatigue to alcohol or speeding and it is a lethal mix.

X-Rays, CT Scans Should Not Be Used Indiscriminately

X-rays there’s no doubt can be extremely useful when properly applied on conditions like blocked coronary arteries, bad head injuries, a bone break and chest x-ray. On the other hand, x-rays can raise the risk of cancer if use indiscriminately without asking the patient when his last x-ray was done. Patients therefore are encouraged to ask critical questions before they undergo an x-ray. Patients can do something about it by asking their doctor to explain the necessity and the risks of an x-ray examination.
