Cancer Has Been Linked To Obesity

European researchers had reported in their study published recently that being overweight or obese may increase a person’s risk of developing up to a dozen different types of cancer. The link has long been suspected by doctors between weight gain and certain cancers, including colon and breast cancers. But the new study, published in the Lancet, suggest that it could also increase chances for cancer of the esophagus, thyroid, kidney, uterus, gall bladder and among others.

Obesity - A Global Concern

About three hundred twenty million people are obese and the number is not decreasing considering the sedentary lifestyle of many individuals and the proliferation of unhealthy foods as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). The world body defines obesity and being overweight as ” an accumulation of excess body fat to an extent that may impair health”. When you exceed the ideal body weight by one hundred pounds for males and eighty pounds for the females, you are considered suffering from severe or morbid obesity. International health experts define overweight, when you have a body mass index (BMI) of twenty five and above and obesity with a BMI of thirty or more. Body mass index is calculated by a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of his or her height. They claimed that there are more obese females than males.

Fighting Obesity / Why Dieting Sometimes Doesn’t Work?

Losing weight is an enormous problem. It’s a gargantuan task to overcome. Obesity goes perennial and you see obese people in every walks of life. It’s mystifying that even in developing countries are not spared. Is there anything in finding it difficult to lose weight? Aside from a self imposed will in losing weight, what other factors contribute to lose weight failure? Hence, let’s examine some of them:

1) Over Compensation- A diet expert has observed that dieters tend to compensate after a weight loss regimen after most of them experienced a sensation of intense hunger and responded to it by eating at least as much before the diet has started. As a rule, any diet that has resulted in a loss of couple of pounds in the first week or two will result in the gain of the same amount a few months later after the diet has ended.
