NBA Files Charges Against NBPA

National Basketball Association (NBA) filed the unfair labor practice charge against the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) with the National Labor Relations board.

Simultaneously, a federal lawsuit was also filed by NBA against NBPA in Manhattan federal court, arising from the players’ union’s threatening stance of using antitrust litigation to extract a more favorable contract in the ongoing negotiations.

NBA has accused the association in its unfair labor practice charge, of making unlawful threats to break up their union and pursue an antitrust lawsuit against the NBA, a National Football League (NFL) player’s strategy to fight their lockout.

The case is docketed No. 11-5369. National Basketball Association v. National Basketball Players Association, et al, at the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.
