Tiger Woods was lining up a 19-foot birdie putt at the par-three seventh hole, his 16th of the day, when a man ran onto the edge of the green at CordeValle Golf Club calling Wood’s attention before hurling the hot dog at him.
The man was immediately arrested by the police. Dan Diggins, the Frys.com Open golf tournament’s head of security, said that the man never got closer than 40 feet (12 meters) to Woods.
‘I turned around and the hot dog was in the air,’ Woods said after signing off with a three-under-par 68. ‘I guess he wanted to be in the news.
India’s Arjun Atwal, who played with Woods in the final round, said the hot dog flew across Tiger’s putting line.
According to Woods, he was focusing on his putt when the man started yelling and he missed the putt after the man shouted his name.
Atwal described the incident as one of the most bizarre he had seen on a golf course.
