US Wins World Basketball Crown, Trounced Turkey, 81-64

The US trounced Turkey by the score of 81-64 thus capturing their first world basketball crown since 1994. It was the Americans’ fourth world crown, two years later after they won the Olympic title in Beijing.

They have shown that they were very strong team in the competition despite the absence of 12 of the squad who triumphed in China. Kevin Durant, the star of the Oklahoma City showing off his tremendous talents having scored 28 points in the game with Turkey.

The 15,000 screaming Turkish fans did not seem to be affecting the Americans, who were able to double their lead and make up the score of 42-32 in favor of the Americans at half time.

With the remaining time of the game, the Americans remained calm and continued picking their shots against the Turkish. The US victory put a disappointing end on an important day for Turkey.

The Turkish players were a step slow and consistently beaten on the boards, perhaps drained from their thrilling 83-82 victory over Serbia in Saturday’s late game.

Hedo Turkoglu of the Phoenix Suns scored 16 points for the Turkish, who were bidding for their first title and were boosted by crowd support.

With Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and other US stars skipping the tournament , this American group was called a “B-Team.” But Durant Led the team to its first world title and restore American prestige on the international stage.
