A Drought Resistant Rice Variety Showcased

The PSBRc-9, also known as APO rice variety has showcased its superior characteristics which turned out a better yield when using less water.

The rice variety has a larger and fuller grains. It performs well compared to other varieties that were stricken with disease and offered little resistance to prolong drought.

According to Dr. Junel B. Soriano, a technical expert from the Bulacan Agriculture State College (BASC), “PSBRc-9 or APO rice variety is drought tolerant and can survive under low moisture.”

It is also resistant to various pests and diseases. The use of furrow seeder reduced the seeding rate to 60 kilograms (132 lbs.) per hectare, half of the rate that was previously used which is 120 kilograms (264 lbs).
