High Simple Carbohydrates Diet To Cause Heart Disease?

Contrary to what we know not only fatty foods caused heart disease and hypertension, but a new study has revealed that those in high simple carbohydrates diet are also at risk of the disease.

So, it is not only food that is cooked fried like French fries, hamburger or fried chicken that caused heart ailment but Bagels white rice and baked potatoes are more than twice as likely develop heart disease.

Simple carbohydrates can boost the amount of triglycerides (a type of fat) in the blood while lowering ‘good’ HDL cholesterol. HDL helps keep our arteries clear by removing deposits of ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. Having high triglycerides don’t just increase the risk of heart disease, it is also a strong prediction of stroke.

According to National Cancer Institute in Italy that not all carbohydrates have the same effect on the body. Only those with a high glycemic index because this has something to do with the blood sugar or glucose level. The higher the food’s glycemic number, the more our blood sugar levels skyrocket.

In general complex carbohydrates like whole grains and fruits do not give you trouble on your glucose and they are not a problem to consume. It is the refined food like doughnut and pasta that you should watch for.

Men, however, have nothing to worry about refined carbohydrates compared to women. Researchers have speculated that it has something to do with hormones. Male sex hormones called androgen may keep carbohydrates from morphing into sugar at warp speeds. While female sex hormones like estrogen, on the other hand, appear to speed up the process.

It is suggested to better shift to fish, poultry and beans; fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains, for a healthful diet. Eating in smaller portions with foods take longer to digest is also recommended.
