Melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer and it is rising rapidly among young adults in the US.
Skin cancer is caused by too much exposure to ultra violet (UV) rays from the sun or sunbeds but the rates have been increasing over the years.
Malignant melanoma can develop in normal skin, especially those areas exposed to sunlight, but most come from moles.
Brief exposure to UV light can cause mutations in the DNA of skin cells, including the host cells for melanoma. Sufficient of mutations can result to skin cancer.
